Dyslexia & Visual Stress Support
A Different Approach to Reading Difficulties
Many people who struggle with reading—particularly those with dyslexia—also experience visual discomfort. Words may appear to move, blur, or become difficult to track, making reading tiring and frustrating.
At Andrew & Rogers, we focus on identifying and addressing visual stress, a condition that can exist alongside dyslexia and significantly impact reading comfort.
How We Can Help
We offer a specialised assessment using colourimetry, a clinical process designed to determine whether specific coloured filters can reduce visual stress.
For some individuals, the right colour can make text appear clearer, more stable, and easier to follow—helping to improve comfort and reduce fatigue when reading.
Important to Know
Colourimetry is an effective aid for visual stress and can support individuals with dyslexia, but it is not a diagnostic test for dyslexia.
Our role is to support the visual aspect of reading difficulty, not to diagnose learning conditions.
Signs of Visual Stress
You or your child may benefit from assessment if you notice:
Words appearing to move or distort
Difficulty tracking lines of text
Sensitivity to bright white pages
Headaches or eye strain when reading
Avoidance of reading tasks
The Assessment Process
Your appointment is calm, thorough, and tailored to the individual.
It includes:
A detailed discussion of symptoms and reading experience
Screening for visual stress
Trial of coloured overlays
Precision colourimetry assessment using specialist equipment
Clear recommendations based on your results
CERIUM Specialised Tinted Lenses
Following assessment, some patients benefit from CERIUM specialised tinted lenses, designed to reduce visual stress and improve reading comfort.
Each lens is individually tailored to the exact colour identified during colourimetry. Unlike overlays, these lenses provide a consistent and practical solution that can be worn throughout the day.
CERIUM lenses can be made with your prescription, combining clear vision with improved visual comfort in a single, bespoke pair of glasses.
Who They Can Help
These lenses may be beneficial for individuals who:
Experience visual stress when reading
Find text appears to move or distort
Have been identified as benefiting from colourimetry
Experience discomfort under bright or high-contrast conditions
A Personalised, Considered Approach
As an independent practice, we take the time to understand each patient’s experience fully. Our assessments are unrushed, evidence-informed, and focused on practical outcomes.
For individuals with dyslexia who also experience visual stress, colourimetry and precision tinted lenses can make a meaningful difference to reading comfort and endurance.
