Scleral Lenses
Scleral contact lenses are a revolutionary solution for individuals seeking optimal vision and comfort. Unlike traditional contact lenses that rest primarily on the cornea, scleral lenses extend further onto the sclera—the white part surrounding the cornea. This design is particularly beneficial for those facing challenges such as irregular astigmatism, post-laser surgery dry eyes, corneal transplants, Sjogren’s syndrome, or corneal conditions like keratoconus.
Key Features:
Full Corneal Vaulting: Scleral lenses aim to completely clear (or vault) the cornea, providing clear vision and superior comfort.
Versatility: Ideal for various eye conditions, including irregular astigmatism, post-surgery dry eyes, corneal transplants, and more.
Enhanced Comfort: Despite their larger size, scleral lenses are often more comfortable as the sclera is less sensitive than the cornea.
Why Choose Us:
At Andrew and Roger Optometrists, our dedicated team brings extensive experience in contact lens fitting. As active contributors to European and UK contact lens research, we stay at the forefront of advancements in eye care.

Ortho-K Lenses
What Are Ortho-K Contact Lenses and Could They Be Right for You?
If you or your child are struggling with short-sightedness (myopia), you may be looking for an alternative to daytime glasses or contact lenses—especially one that helps slow down myopia progression. One innovative solution that more patients are turning to is Ortho-K, short for Orthokeratology.
What Is Ortho-K?
Ortho-K lenses are custom-made, gas-permeable contact lenses that are worn overnight to gently reshape the front surface of your eye (the cornea). While you sleep, these lenses work to temporarily correct your vision, so when you wake up and remove them, you can see clearly all day without the need for glasses or contact lenses.
Think of them as a non-surgical alternative to laser vision correction—reversible, non-invasive, and child-friendly.
How Does Ortho-K Work?
The cornea plays a major role in focusing your vision. In people with myopia (short-sightedness), the cornea is often too curved or the eye too long, causing distant objects to appear blurry. Ortho-K lenses gently flatten the central cornea overnight to correct the way light is focused on the retina.
The effects are temporary—most patients enjoy clear vision for up to 24–48 hours after wearing the lenses overnight. Regular wear is necessary to maintain the results.
Why Is Ortho-K Popular for Children and Teenagers?
Beyond offering clear daytime vision without glasses, Ortho-K has been shown in multiple studies to slow the progression of myopia in children and teenagers. This is important because higher levels of myopia are associated with increased risks of eye diseases later in life, such as retinal detachment, glaucoma, and macular degeneration.
Ortho-K provides:
Daytime freedom from glasses and soft lenses
Active lifestyle compatibility (perfect for sport-loving kids!)
Clinically backed myopia control benefits
