Welcome to our FAQs page. Whether you’re new to Andrew & Rogers or a long-standing patient, we’ve compiled the most common questions we receive in practice. We hope this helps you make informed decisions about your eye health.

General Eye Care FAQs

Q: How often should I have an eye test?
A: Most people should have an eye test every two years. However, if you have certain medical conditions (like diabetes or glaucoma), are under 16 or over 70, or have been advised otherwise by your optometrist, you may need more frequent checks. At Andrew & Rogers Optometrists in Beverley, we offer personalised recall reminders for your convenience.

Q: Are eye tests free on the NHS?
A: Yes, you may qualify for an NHS voucher towards an eye test if you meet certain criteria (e.g. under 16, over 60, in full-time education, or receiving certain benefits). We can check your eligibility during booking.

Q: What happens during an eye test?
A: An eye test typically takes 30–45 minutes and includes a full vision check, eye health screening, and personalised recommendations. We also offer advanced diagnostic scans like OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) for a deeper look at your eye health.

Glasses & Contact Lenses

Q: Do you offer designer glasses?
A: Yes. We stock a wide range of designer frames including Ray-Ban, Oakley, Lindberg, and more. Our experienced team can help you choose the perfect pair for your lifestyle, face shape, and prescription.

Q: Can I get prescription sunglasses?
A: Absolutely. We offer prescription sunglasses in a variety of styles and tints, including polarised lenses for maximum glare protection.

Q: Do you fit and supply contact lenses?
A: Yes, we provide expert contact lens fittings, trials, and aftercare. We supply daily, monthly, multifocal and toric lenses from leading brands.

Q: Can children wear contact lenses?
A: Yes – with the right guidance. We assess suitability on a case-by-case basis and provide age-appropriate training and follow-ups to ensure your child’s safety and comfort.

Q: Do you offer emergency eye care?

Q: What is OCT eye scanning and do I need it?
A: OCT is a non-invasive, high-resolution scan of the back of your eye. It helps detect conditions like glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy earlier than standard tests. We perform this as standard for most adult patients.

Children’s Eye Care

Q: At what age should my child have their first eye test?
A: Children can be tested as early as 3 years old – earlier if you notice any concerns. Early eye checks are important for detecting conditions like lazy eye or squint.

Q: Is eye testing free for children?
A: Yes, NHS eye tests are free for all children under 16 and full-time students under 19. We also offer a range of children’s frames.
